Ukrainian studies at Charles University in Prague ... The Ukrainian World Congress
Ukrajinistika v Praze na FF UK je ohrožena...
Ukrainian studies play a major role in this growth and development while contributing to a broader understanding of Ukraine, its people and its ulture, within the international community. Ukrainian studies at Charles University in Prague are no exception.
During a visit to Prague in 2011, I had the pleasure of meeting with official government representatives and non-governmental organizations, all of which assured me that the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic has the necessary centers, including educational institutions, capable of maintaining a high level of awareness, encouraging knowledge of Ukraine and promoting relations with Ukraine.
Contributing to an understanding of Ukraine is even more critical today as current events in Eastern Ukraine continue to threaten peace and stability in the entire European community.
It is our concern that cutting back the Ukrainian studies program at Charles University will have a negative effect on the development of the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic, limiting its educational potential and impacting its identity, worth and role in Czech society.
On behalf of the UWC and its member organizations in 34 countries I respectfully ask that you preserve and maintain the Ukrainian studies program at your distinguished educational institution.
