Ukrainian World Congress condemns desecration of Stepan Bandera gravesite in Munich

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) condemns the desecration of the monument at the gravesite of Stepan Bandera in Munich, Germany, the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists assassinated in 1959 by a Soviet KGB agent.

The UWC and Ukrainians worldwide are disgusted over this act of hatred that unsurprisingly coincides with the anti-Ukrainian conflict being fueled in Eastern Ukraine by Russia-backed terrorists.

Stepan Bandera dedicated his life to the fight for an independent Ukrainian state and the right of all people to live in dignity and freedom.

"We call on German authorities to act swiftly in order to bring the violators to justice and to ensure that similar racist crimes are not repeated," stated UWC President Eugene Czolij.

The UWC is the international coordinating body for Ukrainian communities in the diaspora representing the interests of over 20 million Ukrainians. The UWC has member organizations in 33 countries and ties with Ukrainians in 14 additional countries. Founded in 1967, the UWC was recognized in 2003 by the United Nations Economic and Social Council as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with special consultative status.
